The Honeymoon is definitely over...
I'm willing to give Expono the benefit of the doubt but 2 problems are preventing me from using Expono as I had intended.
1. One of the main reasons I got excited about Expono and subsequently purchased a premium account was that I wanted a good online backup for my GB's of photos. I quickly found that although Expono could provide this backup solution, uploading said GB's of images is a painful process. The problem is that because Expono hogs all my DSL bandwidth and web browsing becomes completely unusable. So, when I finally decide to upload some images (which isn't very often anymore because of the bandwidth issues) that is the only thing I can do. I posted a suggestion here at Get Satisfaction but as of yet have received no response:

2. The other big reason I paid for Expono was the ability to share photos with friends and family. Today, I tried to share an album with a family member and although they were able to view the photos they aren't allowed to download. I've set and reset privacy options but still now download link/button does not show up for them. Thinking they might need an Expono account I even set up a free account for them but still no joy. The whole process was overly complex and in the end didn't work anyway. I finally just installed dropbox on both of our computers and shared my photos this way.
To say I'm frustrated is an understatement. Since I paid for Expono I guess I can give you guys the duration of my membership to see if you address any of my issues. If my membership was up today, however, I probably wouldn't renew.

I have this problem, too!

Inappropriate?I pretty much agree. I think the lack of a button to download an entire album or stack is really bad prioritising. Also that the uploader is a pain to work with. It's not as bad after I got done uploading my collection, but it still sucks. I usually use another browser to alleviate the problem somewhat.
I really hope these issues get higher on Exponos todo-list.

Inappropriate?I can see why you are frustrated and I'm sorry that I've repeatedly missed to answer your questions. Actually, I'm pretty sure I answered the questions about the uploader and throttling of bandwidth before, but it may have been to another user via email. I'll answer some stuff here but also under the other topic http://getsatisfaction.com/expono/top...
Anyway, here's the deal with the uploader.
The uploader is webbased (built using javascript and swfupload (flash)). There is no way we can throttle the bandwidth using this technology. We need a completely different uploader, such a plugin, desktop app, or maybe a java applet to make that happen. Also, I'm not sure throttling should be done by us. There are multiple solutions out there to help you throttle your bandwidth. What kind of OS and browser do you use? Here is a great firefox addon for Windows users (I wish this was available to Linux and OS X) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.... With this addon you can throttle all bandwidth to expono.com. Neat solution.
What kind of photo management software do you use locally? Would you consider a desktop uploader a top priority for us?
What's up with Sharing?
I can tell you right of the bat, that we've made changes and are making changes to the sharing to make it better for both the photo owner and for the viewers.
What about Downloads?
You are so right regarding the download functionality and because of your feedback I've started to look at it today. On Monday, I know if it will make the next update (which is long overdue and we still have some other issues to sort out).
Here is my proposal for an initial acceptable download solution which won't take days for us to implement.
We add a new property to albums called "Allow Download of Original Photos"
If this checkbox is checked, a download button or icon will be visible on the album page.
If a viewer click "Download All" a ZIP file of all photos is downloaded (on-the-fly zipstream).
Very simple, but still does what you want.
What's your thoughts about the download solution?
NOTE: This is not what we have in mind for our users in regards to make a complete restore of lost photos, but it could work as an acceptable solution until we have a more sophisticated restore solution implemented.

Inappropriate?I, for one, think the "Allow download of original photos" checkbox per album, and zipfile, sounds like a great start! Also, thanks for the tip on throtling via Firefox plugin!
